Lot-level and item-level traceability
Inventory may need to support lot-level traceability, for example batch or heat number, and item-level traceability, for example unique pipe numbers.
The required level of traceability depends on the material and project requirements.
Controlled consumption
Inventory consumption should ideally be linked to system-backed report components, not only arbitrary report fields.
This helps ensure that material usage in reports corresponds to real inventory reservations and ledger movements.
Typical workflow
- Receive or register inventory.
- Assign or reserve inventory to a Project or Work Order.
- Select available material during report execution.
- Record usage through the report.
- Approve the report.
- Preserve the inventory usage trail.
